Transparency

Transparency in government is important to me and important to democracy. The public needs to know how the government is spending their money. Voters should feel confident in who is funding candidates.

Previously as a School Trustee in Toronto, I voted for more transparency for the public and I will continue to do so.

  • I voted for School Trustees to publicly release receipts for all spending. This passed and became board policy.

  • I voted to publish Trustee attendance records for board meetings. This was my motion and it passed and became board policy.

  • I voted for the Board Chair to be elected by open vote rather than by secret ballot. I lost this vote and this was not passed.

  • I voted for the school board to publicly release a Long-Term Planning and Accommodation Strategy for all schools in the board with utilization rates and enrollment projections and proposed boundary changes. This passed and became board policy.

  • I voted for the school board to publicly release a school-by-school list of repairs required at each school along with a category of urgency (critical, high priority, medium priority, low priority). This passed and became board policy.

  • I voted for the school board to public release the total repair backlog yearly as estimated by the province. This was my motion and it passed and became board policy.

"As a candidate for election, I will publish a list of my donors with names and donation amounts prior to voting in order to provide voters transparency that I am not funded by real estate developers or a political party slate or union slate. Voting Day is Monday October 18. Therefore, prior to voting day, I will publish on this page my campaign donor list by Friday October 8.

As your School Trustee, I will advocate for School Trustees to publicly release spending receipts, and for the EPSB to release a Long-Term Planning and Accommodation Strategy document and a school-by-school list of repairs required."
